Burdette Lloyd Johns May 16, 1930-September 9, 2021
Burdette Johns, 91, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died on September 9 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Community in North Canton.
He was born in Greentown to the late Grover and Anna (Petrafka) Johns and was married to Gwendolyn Irene (Lowe) Johns for 53 years, until her death in 2007. He is preceded in death by five siblings; and is survived by three children: David (Susan) Johns of Ferrum, Virginia, Brenda (Daniel) Henderson, and Patricia (Patrick) Dalberto, both of Canton; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Burdette was a US Army veteran who served a tour of duty in the Korean War. He worked for 26 years at the North Canton City Schools, particularly Hoover High School, and took pride in caring for those facilities, and interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
He was a lifelong member of the Greentown Church of God, where he served as an usher and groundskeeper. He enjoyed carpentry and home remodeling projects, gardening, time with close friends, game nights with the family, and long drives with his wife. He will be remembered as a man of good humor and commitment, a model of integrity, practical wisdom, and determination.
The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their thoughtful and compassionate care for Burdette during his final days.
