JAMES A. THORP
James A. Thorp, passed away, Saturday November 28 in North Canton, Ohio due to Covid. Please be safe,wear a mask and take care of your loved ones.
James Thorp proudly entered the Army Military Police after high school. Upon discharge, he returned home to Akron to join the United Rubber Workers in Akron, Ohio. Jim served in multiple roles for the company and union credit. He was employed by Goodyear for 40 years; holding various positions throughout his career. Outside of work, Jim was active in his community. Many hours were spent as a member of the Tallmadge Auxiliary Police force and volunteering for Summit County Metro parks, for which he received an award for achieving over 1,000 hours of service. He enjoyed water classes and socializing at the YMCA, and rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kay Thorp; daughters, Joan Neely and Julie (Brian) Smith; and son, James (Karen) Thorp. Jim has six grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Neely, Jack and Paul Thorp, and Hannah and Caleb Smith.
During this difficult time, there will be a private family only Graveside Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to: Lake Township FISH, 934 W. Maple St., Hartville, Ohio 44632. FISH is an assistance organization, sponsored and governed by Lake area clergy. It is committed to doing God’s work through helping those in need. They have the food pantry plus help with utility bills and housing payments in times of neediness.
Hecker-Patron Funeral Home, Uniontown, has been entrusted with Jim’s care and is honored in assisting his family during this very delicate time.
