RICHARD HENRY DETWILER “DICK”

Richard Henry Detwiler “Dick”, 93, flew home to heaven on Monday, July 5th, where he joined his wife of 60 years, Betty, and his daughter Debra Christner. Dick was a lifelong resident of Green, Ohio, and was a proud World War Two Veteran who served in the US Navy. He later was a volunteer fireman for Greensburg Township, and worked for Republic Steel, O’Neil’s, Greensburg Township Road Department, and Redovian Cabinets.

Dick was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church in Green, where he sang in the bass section of the choir.

A diehard Cleveland sports fan, Dick enjoyed being outdoors tending to his yard, woodworking and making furniture for his family, and boating and fishing with “The Over the Hill Gang.” He also enjoyed watching Westerns and listening to gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Debra; his parents, Clifford and Selma Detwiler; brothers, William and Clifford Jr.; and sister, Jean Neal.

He leaves behind his daughters, Susan (Daniel) Ferguson, Lori (David) Smith; son, Dale (Julie) Detwiler; grandchildren, Kelli (Andy) Offenberger, Aaron (Kristen) Smith, Amanda (Steve) Slack, Shane Detwiler, Jessica Austin (fiancé Darrin Gore), Jamie (James) Budd; great-grandchildren, Thad, Autumn, Alannah, Helena, Caleb, Luke, Gavin, Wyatt, Nora; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Sophie.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation, Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Temple Baptist Church, 1212 Greensburg Road, Green, Ohio, where the service for Richard will take place on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:00 am. Pastor Glenn Rogers, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Greensburg Cemetery, North Canton, Ohio,

The family would like to thank the Akron Summa Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate and loving care during Dick’s final days with us.

Until we meet again in heaven, “See you later, Dad.”
